Tanto el chasis como la carrocería son de plástico, que no es el material más noble pero que puede cumplir bien su cometido. La aplicación más razonable de este vehículo es el reparto por los cascos históricos de las ciudades, aprovechando su pequeño tamaño, poco ruido y emisiones nulas durante su circulación.
DuraCar es la empresa holandesa que fabrica el QUICC!. Bajo la premisa de que "si buscas resultados distintos, no hagas siempre lo mismo" (Albert Einstein), siete personas han reunido sus conocimientos e ideas innovadoras para sacar al mercado un auto respetuoso del medio ambiente, que ofrezca seguridad, velocidad y autonomía.
Entre John Lodge, Harry Vrancken, Cor Knabben y Johann Tomforde reúnen 125 años de experiencia en el sector automotriz tanto en diseño como en producción y control de calidad. Por su lado, Wim Steenbakkers, Guido Boosten y Ronald van der Vight se encargan de la administración, mercadotecnia y finanzas de la empresa. Pero no trabajan solos. Cuentan con accionistas tan importantes como Econcern, Oakinvest y MT.
El primer modelo que lanzarán al mercado se llama QUICC! DiVa. En la Feria Mundial del Automóvil de París, celebrada en octubre de 2008 presentaron, con éxito, uno de los cinco prototipos que ya circulan por las calles y carreteras holandesas. De acuerdo con sus planes, a fines de este año producirán los primeros 325 que se colocarán en el mercado, y a mediados de 2010 empezarán la fabricación masiva (10 mil por año), que se pondrán a la venta en los 10 o 12 distribuidores que planean tener en la Unión Europea. A través de ellos garantizarán a sus clientes el servicio postventa, mantenimiento y refacciones.
Hasta ahora, además de solucionar los temas más importantes: diseño ergonómico, ingeniería y elección de la batería óptima, han realizado pruebas piloto con diferentes clientes potenciales. La idea del equipo atrás de QUICC! es enfocarse al mercado empresarial (B2B).
En palabras de Guido Boosten, antes de llegar al público en general buscarán atender a las empresas de reparto, como las mensajerías, con la camionetita de distribución QUICC! DiVa que puede cargar 600 kilogramos en sus 2,3 metros cúbicos de espacio de almacenaje.
En ese tipo de compañías por lo general los vehículos se utilizan sólo durante las horas hábiles, por lo que de noche pueden recargar completamente sus baterías. En este renglón han optado por las de iones de litio combinadas con unas que utilizan sistemas bipolares de plomo, una nueva tecnología. Depende de la batería seleccionada y del tipo de cargador que se utilice, este proceso puede durar entre treinta minutos y ocho horas.
Su planta de producción será muy versátil, lo que les permitirá ajustarse con facilidad a los requerimientos del mercado. Por establecer comparaciones contarán con apenas 20 estaciones de trabajo (en las armadoras de autos normales hay unas 260) y sólo requerirán seis mil partes (contra las aproximadamente 23.000 que componen los coches actuales).
La velocidad máxima, limitada por el fabricante, es de 120 kilómetros por hora. Esta es una de las características que le permiten circular incluso en carreteras. La carrocería es de plástico reciclado, lo que lo convierte en un coche casi completamente ecológico. ¿Qué pasa si choca contra un automóvil normal?
"QUICC! ofrece la misma seguridad al pasajero que un auto convencional; debemos dejar atrás el paradigma de que si es de plástico es frágil". Las baterías, que es lo más pesado del vehículo, se encuentran centradas en el chasis, lo que permite una conducción muy segura.
QUICC!, cuyas siglas significan auto de calidad, utilitario, innovador y limpio (Quality Utility Innovative Clean Car) acaba de ganar el primer lugar en la votación sobre el Auto del Futuro que organizó la asociación ZERAuto, dejando en segundo y tercer lugar, respectivamente, al Chevrolet Volt y al Th!nk City, producido en Noruega.
QUICC! DiVa producirá inicialmente 325 autos que costarán entre 30.000 y 35.000 euros. Cuando se inicie la producción masiva podrá reducirse a unos 22.000 euros.

QUICC!
DuraCar has developed a fully electrically powered distribution van applying an integrated set of innovative technologies. This distribution van, developed specifically for inner-city traffic, carries the name QUICC! (brand name) DiVa (short for Distribution Van, type name).
All QUICC! cars are fitted with Lithium ion Iron Phosphate battery packs. This battery pack allows the QUICC! DiVa – the first of the family – a top speed of 120 km/h and a range of 150 km. In comparison with cars with conventional combustion engines the unique advantages are obvious: an average of no more than € 1 to € 2 per 100 km on energy consumption, zero CO2 or PM10s emission and completely silent.
The introduction focuses on the commercial market, mainly inner-city distribution. An average distribution van for inner-city traffic has a daily coverage of 50 to 70 Km in an environment with the highest percentage of air quality problems. The QUICC! DiVa will be able to play an important part in the solution of mobility issues in this market.
DuraCar is an innovative enterprise, focusing on the development and production of sustainable transportation solutions for city and intra-city traffic. Our core activity is the design and building of the first electrically powered lightweight plastic cars under brand name QUICC!
The first type built by DuraCar is a specially designed city distribution van: the QUICC! DiVa (DistributionVan). The QUICC! DiVa is our solution for authorities and fleet managers to tackle current mobility problems. At the beginning of the 21st century we are facing huge problems because of:
1. increasing pressure on the environment by the emission of damaging exhaust gasses (PM10s, nitrogen and CO2)
2. rising costs of energy, resulting in an increase in the variable costs per kilometre
3. reduced accessibility of inner cities, due to increasing pressure and increasing political steps to reduce urban accessibility for cars.
It is not surprising that the demand for sustainable transportation solutions has increased over the past few years. At the same time, technology and especially battery technology has improved importantly. Those are important pre-conditions for the successful commercial proto that DuraCar is building right now. We are aiming at a fast implementation of new technology within a flexible production environment and a sophisticated network of partners.
Our first is the QUICC! DiVa: the first affordable, electrically powered distribution van with zero emissions, negligible cost of fuel and properties that will make driving, especially in city traffic, a pleasure.
QUICC! lease
The QUICC! DiVa will be available for operational lease through selected distributors equipped for service and maintenance as well. DuraCar is looking for parties of good reputation in this market, who are able to offer their services in conformity with commercial market expectations, at attractive rates and under full warranty.
In the Netherlands the QUICC! lease programme will be available from early 2009 through DuraCar’s partner Transport Techniek Delft (TTd). TTd is a professional distributor and producer of special vehicles in the commercial market. For detailed information see: www.ttd.nl

Predictable cost
The option of operational lease will keep the cost of electric driving predictable and clear. For you as a client we will break down the barriers to switch to electric driving.
Service, maintenance and mobility warranty are all included in the operational lease programme. The recharging of the batteries (power consumption) is not included in the lease programme.

Choose QUICC! , choose a better environment. When it comes to distribution QUICC! quality gives you an edge. And it does matter! Higher sustainability demands are made in an increasing number of market segments when new contracts are concluded.
